One recent review notes: This is now the second time we’ve had a frustrating experience at JCPenney Portraits. Both times we arrived on time for our scheduled appointment with our baby, and both times there were significant delays with no communication. The first time was during the holidays, which we understood would be busy — but the lack of communication was still disappointing. Their cancellation policy requires customers to give 24 hours’ notice, yet there seems to be no similar respect for customers’ time when they are running behind. A quick phone call as a courtesy would go a long way, especially when families are coordinating around baby schedules. Today was even more frustrating. We arrived 15 minutes early for our appointment, carefully planning around our baby’s 2:30 nap. We were told there had been a power outage and that they had no way of contacting us. However, once power was restored and they were up and running, a courtesy call to let us know about the delay would have prevented us from rushing over unnecessarily. We were then told they take lunch from 2–3 and would most likely take us after lunch. When we expressed our concerns, Luther, the manager, responded with an attitude and stated he had to handle “their customers” first before taking care of us — as if we weren’t customers as well. That was especially disappointing coming from a manager. Professionalism and basic customer service were lacking. We understand that unexpected issues happen. What’s frustrating is the lack of communication and the dismissive attitude when concerns are raised — particularly when families with young children are involved. We hope management takes feedback like this seriously and works on better communication and professionalism moving forward. Santa Clarita clients looking for polished, business-ready images should consider this studio if the portfolio style matches what they need. Visit studio website

• Google review: We've been going to this Portraits studio for 8 years to get our family photos every Christmas, birthday and other occasions. We've had great photos taken here. They have some fun new modern backdrops for Christmas. For the most part they will take enough photos to make sure you have nice ones to order after the session is over. Their program with membership allows you to take unlimited amounts of photos without paying Studio fees for two years. That's a really nice perk. Christmas time is really busy so be sure to ask your photographer to see the photos on their camera before leaving the studio. That way you can see if some of them are not what you wanted and ask them to delete it. I think they only can take 25 photos total. So if they delete some, they can retake more pictures of your family. That's a tip someone gave me years ago.
